Applied Mathematics

Applied Mathematics offers courses to undergraduate and post-graduate students of various engineering disciplines. The syllabi have been designed in the areas of Applied Mathematics, Computational Techniques and Statistical testing to impart sound knowledge of the various mathematical tools used and their applications in the engineering disciplines.

Humanities

It help students to develop adequate communication skills so that they can acquire, analyse, store, retrieve and exchange information at various levels of communication. The Department has the proud distinction of maintaining a language lab with the aim to acquaint the students with various phases of language learning.

Life Skills & Communication

To help students acquire their life skills so that they can be futuristic in their approach. Life skills are essential to promote mental health and competence in youth in order to help them face challenges and realities of work and life.

Economics & Management

To help students acquire analytical abilities so as to interpret the ideas developed by economists and inculcate managerial skills to manage the goings-on of a workplace and life at large.

Environmental Studies 

To help in developing a holistic understanding of environmental issues and sensitizes students on subjects like climate change, loss of biodiversity, land degradation and other issues of ecological significance.

In addition to their key teaching responsibilities, a number of faculty members have been contributing their scholarly articles in national as well as international journals of repute. They have also been attending national as well as international conferences to keep themselves abreast of the latest researches and developments in their subject.

Workshop

Central Workshop at Roorkee College of Engineering, Roorkee is the biggest workshop among the engineering colleges situated in Uttarakhand, having all-round facilities for student learning and for developing their Projects of varying fields with a well-trained team of around 10 staff having proficiency in different fields.

In the Central Workshop various facilities are available for all B. Tech 1st year and IInd year, IIIrd year, IVth year Mechanical Engineering student Various facilities available at Central Workshop are as follows.

Machine Shop

Various machine tools are available in machine shop:

  • Lathe machine: - Central Lathe, Capstan Lathe, Bench Lathe and CNC Lathe
  • Drill machine: - Vertical Drill Machine, Radial Drill Machine and Bench Drill Machine
  • Grinding Machine: - Surface Grinder, Cylindrical Grinding, Tool and Cutter Grinder and Tool post Grinder
  • Milling machine:- Universal Milling Machine, Vertical Milling Machine and CNC Milling
  • Shaper Machine, Planner Machine and Bend Saw.

Fitting Shop

Various machine tools and machine are available:
Bench Drill Machine, Bend Saw, Column Type Drill Machine, Fly Press, Power Press and Shear Cutter.

Welding Shop

Various welding machine and instruments are available:
Electric Arc Welding, Gas Welding Tool Post Grinder, and Welding Generator

Smithy Shop

Various machines and equipment are available:
Forge Furnace, Grinder Cut off Wheel, Hand Shear Cutters, Anvil, Square Block and Hammers.

Carpentry Shop

Various wood cutting machines and equipment are available:
Universal Wood Cutter, Thickness Wood Planer, Tool Post Grinder, and Jig Saw.

Foundry Shop

Various moulding machines and furnaces are available:
Shell Moulding, CO2 Moulding, Vacuum Moulding, Sand Muller, Pit Furnace and Oil Fired Furnace.

Engineering Drawing

Engineering drawing and artistic types of drawing, and either may be called simply "drawing" when the context is implicit. Engineering drawing shares some traits with artistic drawing in that both create pictures. But whereas the purpose of artistic drawing is to convey emotion or artistic sensitivity in some way (subjective impressions), the purpose of engineering drawing is to convey information.
