The oldest and most sought among all Engineering Branches, Civil Engineering involves Designing and Managing a number of Construction Projects. A Civil Engineer can be involved in creating everything from a Small Bridge to a Lavish Residential Complex. Broader in nature, Civil Engineers specializes into a variety of area viz. Transportation, Infrastructure, Water Resources, Urban Design, Coastal Areas and the Environment. Roorkee is the city specially engaged in Civil Engineering education since last 150 years. Roorkee finds its importance by being the host of many prominent institutions and organizations. In that sense studying Civil Engineering at Roorkee is like studying from its creators.

At Roorkee College of Engineering, Roorkee, the goal of department is to produce high quality technical manpower needed by Industry, R&D Organizations, and Academic Institutions and above all to meet the engineering needs of the Nation.

The Department also encourages its students to engage in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, essential for development, nurturing of team spirit, developing organizational skills and inculcating good moral values and positive work culture.

According to our institute, the importance of Civil Engineering is very well established in sphere of life. This discipline refers to the construction of Buildings, Bridges, Roads, Airports, Railways, Dams, Canals, Water Supply and Sewage Treatment plants. All such activities are accomplished under the broad categories of Surveying, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Hydraulics Engineering etc.

The Department offers Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, a four year comprehensive program designed by Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun. Roorkee College of Engineering, Roorkee provides all the latest facilities to learn all the competitive skills of Civil Branch. The intake of the department every year is 120 students. The Department is well equipped with all the necessary equipment in the laboratories as prescribed by the University. Utmost attention is paid in the conduct of experiments and to groom the students to meet the future challenges.
