Animation is the art of bringing inanimate objects or characters to life, a world where reality meets imagination. It involves special effects, graphics and software technologies that create virtual experiences. The animation industry is witnessing a host of opportunities, as television channels, movie makers and the entertainment sector are finding the animation techniques suitable for a different visual experience. Recognizing this potential, the Indian market is suddenly waking up to the need of this growing industry. Animation studios and training institutes cater to the growing need to build skilled manpower for this market.
Though, these are some examples only. Opportunities exist both with the government as well as private sector enterprises. The animation itself is an industry, and as industry, it’s on the boom. There exist numerous animation houses both in India and abroad who work for clienteles. An animator and multimedia professional can also work as a freelancer or start his / her own enterprise given he/she has entrepreneurial skills and funds for investments. Animators work in various capacities.

Computer Laboratory on 2D Animation
Cut-out, 2D drawn, sand animation, paint on glass, collage, and rotoscoping animation techniques are all done here. Capturing frames is done using the application Dragonframe and a DSLR camera. Messy animation projects including paint on glass, and sand animation, are only allowed on the Messy Stand in the 2D Lab Multi-Use Lab in the Communications building
